Job Summary
The Manager-on-Duty is responsible for overseeing supervisory staff within their assigned area, ensuring adequate staffing, addressing disciplinary matters, and fostering strong customer satisfaction through consistent feedback. They serve as a vital link between front-line supervisors and upper management, maintaining operational efficiency and ensuring all activities meet safety, security, quality, and employee relations standards.
They uphold compliance with TSA regulations and the company’s security program by enforcing audit requirements, understanding and implementing site-specific security plans, and ensuring staff display proper identification. The role also emphasizes fairness, respect, and equity in dealing with employees, customers, vendors, and third parties.
Additionally, the Manager-on-Duty ensures proper handling and storage of dangerous goods (DGR), including maintaining secure and organized DGR areas, verifying documentation for import/export shipments, ensuring correct segregation, and preparing essential documents like the Notification to Captain (NOTOC). They are also expected to respond to other reasonable requests from management.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all dangerous goods are properly managed by maintaining visible and up-to-date segregation charts, securing items in clean, damage-free, designated areas, and enforcing proper segregation throughout storage.
- Ensure proper management of dangerous goods by maintaining 90-day DGR files, retaining all import and export documentation while goods are in the facility, verifying all DGR documentation and freight before shipment, and preparing and completing the Notification to Captain (NOTOC).
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret WFS Employee Handbook, WFS Supervisors
- Manual, applicable union contract, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, airline policy and procedures manuals.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, clients, and customers.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to operate equipment and hold necessary licensing (if applicable).
- Ability to perform specific responsibilities related to your shift.
- Reports to work on a regular and timely basis.
- Fulfill any other reasonable tasks as assigned by WFS management.
Minimum Requirements
- Two to five years previous management/specialist supervisory experience in field service duties
- College degree or equivalent experience
- Airline pricing experience
- Must be able to work weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), holidays and days off.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with personal computer software helpful.
- Independent judgment and decision-making skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language.

- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
