A Technical Specialist is a non-licensed person who possesses special skills which are of a value to the Company in a particular subject or field as designated by management.
The work of the Technical Specialist classification includes the following: troubleshooting, disassembly, checking and cleaning, repairing, replacing, testing, adjusting, assembling, installing, servicing, fabricating, or towing any ground equipment while in service or while undergoing overhaul and/or modification. Certifies for quality of workmanship, including signing mechanical releases on field work. May be assigned to order, receive, inventory, secure or disburse parts and supplies on or off airport facilities. May have other maintenance personnel assigned to assist in completing an assignment. Works according to Company regulations and procedures and instructions from lead, supervisor or general manager. Completes forms connected with work assignments according to established procedures and will communicate with other Company personnel as required in a manner designated by the Company. Remain cognizant of WFS staff, security contractors, and visitors’ activities and report security breaches, suspicious occurrences, or non-compliance with the site security plan to managers or via the WFS whistleblower program. Comply with WFS site security procedures for assigned warehouse and other operations
This job is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Job Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age. High-school diploma or GED preferred. Must have a minimum of two (2) years documented training and/or job experience in the areas of welding, machinery, electrical and/or pneumatics. Valid driver’s license, ability to work rotating shifts including weekends (ie. Friday, Saturday, Sunday), holidays, and days-off. Ability to read and work from diagrams as required. Paint and body experience preferred. Diesel experience required. Must possess minimum established Company tool requirements. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language. May be required to possess Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) depending on assignment. If CDL is required, then the position is subject to random Department of Transportation (DOT) drug testing.
Essential Job Functions
Must be able to perform the following functions in variable weather and environmental conditions:
Bend, stoop, and crawl to work in tight, restricted spaces including fuel cells an aircraft belly areas.
Push, pull, lift, and parts and components weighing up to 60 pounds in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, or installation of these parts and components from a sitting, standing, bending, squatting, or overhead position.
Lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
Drive vehicles weighing up to ten (10) tons (up to forty (40) tons in select assignments) in congested areas requiring good depth perception and ability to distinguish colors red, green, and yellow.
Work with color-coded wiring and other components which requires the ability to differentiate colors to include but not limited to red, green, yellow, blue, black, brown, white, and orange.
Operate a variety of tools, including power tools, in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, and installing parts and components while reaching, twisting, turning, and gripping.
Work in a high noise-level environment
Read and interpret printed or computerized maintenance manuals, write legibly to complete forms/paperwork as required.
Must be able to regulate own work with little supervision and accomplish tasks on own.
Reports to work on a regular and timely basis.
