Job Summary

The Ramp Manager-on-Duty oversees daily ramp operations, ensuring safe, secure, and efficient service in compliance with company policies, TSA regulations, and airline procedures. This role directs and supports supervisory staff, manages staffing levels, addresses operational issues in real time, and ensures customer satisfaction through proactive communication and oversight. The Manager-on-Duty acts as the primary liaison between front-line supervisors and upper management, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to standards.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and support ramp supervisors to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant operations.
  • Oversee staffing requirements, schedule adjustments, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor employee performance, providing coaching, discipline, and corrective action as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with TSA, corporate security programs, airline policies, and union agreements.
  • Maintain high standards for safety, security, quality, and customer service.
  • Conduct required company audits to ensure operational continuity and compliance.
  • Implement and enforce site-specific security plans, including ID badge issuance and display.
  • Serve as the communication link between first-level supervisors and senior management.
  • Prepare and review reports, business correspondence, and procedure documentation.
  • Address operational challenges, resolve issues, and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Promote a fair, respectful, and inclusive workplace for employees, customers, and vendors.

Minimum Requirements

  • ​​​​​​Two to five years previous management/specialist supervisory experience in field service duties
  •  College degree or equivalent experience
  •  Airline pricing experience
  • Must be able to work weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), holidays and days off. 

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with personal computer software helpful. 
  • Independent judgment and decision-making skills required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to operate equipment and hold necessary licensing (if applicable).
  • Ability to perform specific responsibilities related to your shift.
  • Reports to work on a regular and timely basis.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in outdoor airport ramp environments in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.
  • Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs or ladders as needed to perform inspections or assist with operations.
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry baggage, freight, or equipment weighing up to 70 lbs. independently and occasionally over 70 lbs. with assistance.
  • Operate ground service equipment (GSE) and vehicles as required.
  • Reach above and below shoulder level to handle cargo, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain the ability to work in high-noise areas and wear required hearing protection.
  • Possess vision and depth perception sufficient to operate vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Communicate clearly in person, over radios, and via telephone.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance, including the ability to work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operationally required.
