Job Summary

The Payroll Director will oversee and supervise the organizations payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. The position reports to the Vice President of Human Resources Administration.

Compensation

This is a full-time, exempt position based in Jamaica, New York (JFK Office). 

 

The expected base salary range for this role is $135,000 to $165,000 per year.

 

Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on factors such as the  relevant experience, skills, education, and internal equity.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Oversees the Payroll Department making critical decisions regarding work processes, service delivery and compliance.
  • Advises and provides guidance to Payroll leaders in managing the team of payroll specialist and support team in day-to-day task
  • Responsible for the evaluation and performance management of direct reports
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Works closely with Compensation, benefits, HRIS, Field HR and Operations
  • Informs and updates senior leadership on payroll department issues and initiatives
  • Oversee all payroll audits and coordinates with other internal teams to expediate results
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required. Three to five years of related experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Proficient knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to show discretion with confidential information.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with payroll software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • FPC and/or CPP designation desirable.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
  • Walk short distances.
  • Reach above and/or below shoulder.
  • Handle/grasp documents or office equipment.
  • Sit and/or stand for short or extended periods of time.
  • Lift/carry/move objects, files and documents up to 10 pounds.
  • Work in an office environment using standard office equipment.
  • Talk, listen, and speak clearly on telephone.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
