Job Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is a hands-on role responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of cargo facilities. Under direct supervision, the technician performs routine preventive maintenance (PM), minor corrective repairs, daily inspections/walkthroughs, and general handyman services on dock doors, levelers, HVAC/coolers, fire/life safety equipment, security systems, generators, building management systems (BMS), warehouse infrastructure (cargo racks, heaters), plumbing/electrical within defined scope, and exterior/grounds maintenance. This entry-level position emphasizes learning, safety compliance, accurate CMMS documentation, and proactive support to minimize downtime while delivering high-quality service to stakeholders. The role contributes directly to facility uptime, regulatory adherence (OSHA, Port Authority, FAA/TSA where applicable), and operational excellence in a dynamic airport cargo environment.
Hrly Rate: $25 to $27
Responsibilities
- Maintain superior customer service and safe working practice at ALL times.
- Execute minor building repairs including basic plumbing (drain cleanouts within 5 ft of fixture), electrical (outlet/switch replacement, bulb/ballast changes, minor appliance services), painting/touch-ups, lighting maintenance, and key making (when blanks/equipment available).
- Respond to corrective and emergency work orders, performing in-house repairs within qualification limits and escalating complex or specialty work.
- Communicate with various parties on the work performed and present status of specialty systems.
- Assist senior technicians with troubleshooting, disassembly, cleaning, repair, replacement, testing, and reassembly of facility equipment and systems.
- React to call outs from the Control Room Operator or manager executing service calls CM, PM and EM.
- Preventative Maintenance – Inspection, adjustment, cleaning, replacement and prepare follow-up CM work orders if needed.
Minimum Requirements
- HS Diploma, GED or Equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule for a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends, and/or holidays
- Background check and drug screen required
- Must be able to attain and sustain an Airport I.D. Badge
- Must have at least 2+ years experience in a technical maintenance role
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language and be understood by others.
Preferred Skills
- Strong electrical troubleshooting
- Strong HVAC experience/certifications
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment. Welding techniques (Fillet Weld, Butt Weld, Weld Joints, Weld Types, Weld Edges, Welding Groove, Stringer and weaving beads, torch angle, forehand and backhand)
- Experience using a variety of system software (Siemens, Allen Bradley PLC Systems and WPS etc.)
- Experience in working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and electromechanical devices up to 480 volts such as motors, DC Clutches, Switches, Panels and controls, etc. DC Drives knowledge a plus.
- Experience in repair of special purpose equipment using Machines - Semi- Automatic, Automatic or Manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Employees work in the assured management areas of baggage, at repair stations, or at airfields and often must meet strict deadlines to maintain flight schedules.
- Employees will be working with and exposed to the baggage handling system, mechanical parts, and vibration.
- Employees may be exposed to various noise levels due to aircraft engines and equipment.
- Employees bend, lean, and frequently reach ladders and scaffolding.
- Employees are required to regularly speak and hear.
- Employees are often required to reach with their hands and arms.
- Employees may be required to perform a variety of activities that could include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, and climbing throughout their day.
- Employees frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds with the help of teammates.
- Employees will lift parts and tools for long periods of time and handle equipment such as transportation systems.
