Manager of Operations - Mercury - 215

Responsible for management of warehouse operation, including groups of employees in handling operation and working with customers to ensure efficient handling of cargo throughput for both import and export operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to plan, organize, lead and control staff to promote workplace culture of teamwork, self-motivation and pride within a diversified and multi-cultural work environment.
  • Direct Supervisors to meet business needs to facilitate successful outcomes in accordance with each carrier’s Service Legal Agreement performance standards.
  • Ensure Supervisors are monitoring Lead Agents and Warehouse Agents to follow safety rules and safety standards which are in place. Wear a safety vest at all times while working, walking or operating equipment within a Mercury Air Cargo warehouse.
  • Participate in recruiting activities, interviewing candidates and making hiring decisions.
  • Assist employee relations and/or conflict resolution, prepare performance appraisals, provide input for counseling and making decisions on suspensions and terminations.
  • Demonstrate diligence required to maintain security under Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA), Airport Police, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and United States Customs/Border Protection (USCBP) Regulations. Challenge any and all persons not displaying an airport I.D. badge within a Mercury warehouse or any Airport Operational Area. (AOA).
  • Prepare various operational reports, providing weekly and monthly data on a regular basis, including special reports requested on an ad hoc basis.
  • Whether position is “Account Manager”, working with one specific customer, or “Operational Manager”, overseeing staff working on numerous customer accounts, ensure regular communications, written and verbal, as well as attendance at meetings as directed or requested by customer. Communicate all operational information to Supervisor and Lead Warehouse Agent(s).
  • Must complete injury reports and damage reports as required.
  • Authorize/ensure post-accident and post-injury testing is done as required.
  • Assist customer representative in providing information and data for various compliance reports and audits.
  • Demonstrate diligence required to maintain security under Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA), Airport Police, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and United States Customs/Border Protection (USCBP) Regulations. You will challenge any and all persons not displaying an airport I.D. badge within a Mercury warehouse or any Airport Operational Area. (AOA).
  • Maintain records and appointments necessary for employment on the airport such as: airport badge appointments, USCBP interviews or other government required meetings.
  • Support and promote employees’ adherence to company’s policies and procedures, including information outlined in the Employee Handbook.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of airline or cargo handling operational experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a Supervisory position.
  • Must possess leadership skills with ability to train and develop personnel.
  • Must be able to continually respond to and prioritize within a fluid work environment.
  • Must possess clean driving record and valid driver’s license (DMV print-out required)
  • Must provide 10 years background employment/education information
  • Must provide proof of the legal right to work in the United States
  • Physical Demands/Working Environment:
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Tolerate moderate to loud levels of noise within the work environment
  • Will be required to work in cold storage areas as assigned
  • Stand and remain standing for periods up to 3 hours without sitting
  • Demonstrate daily a fitness for obligation without impairment due to illegal drugs, sleep deprivation, medication, or alcohol.

  • Ability to prepare written documents, communications and counseling notices
  • Ability to follow instructions from Terminal Manager and customer(s)
  • Ability to act in managerial position and give direction to Supervisors
  • Ability to work as an effective team member in a leadership role
  •  Ability to obtain U.S. Customs seal and license to drive on Airport Operations Area (AOA)
