Job Summary
The Lead Ramp Service Clerk is responsible for aspects of the Ramp Service Clerk position (as described below) as well as the following: The maintenance of a satisfactory quantity and quality of work by assigned personnel, explaining and demonstrating work procedures and methods including safety, apportioning and scheduling assigned work, observing and analyzing the methods used and the results achieved, bring problems to the attention of management and assist management in the utilization of tools, equipment, and materials. Comply with WFS site security procedures for assigned warehouse and other operations. Remain cognizant of WFS staff, security contractors, and visitors’ activities and report security breaches, suspicious occurrences, or non-compliance with the site security plan to managers or via the WFS whistleblower program. Perform work according to Company rules and regulations. This job is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Responsibilities
- Ensures satisfactory quality and quantity of work by personnel assigned to them on a shift.
- Explains and demonstrates work procedures and methods including the safety protocols on all duties.
- Observes and analyzes the methods used and the results achieved and surfaces problems to supervisor’s attention.
- Assists supervisor in duties which involve the utilization of personnel, hours, tools, equipment, and materials.
- Completes forms according to established procedures.
- Performs work according to Company regulations and FAA regulations as applicable
- Comply with all WFS safety and security policies and procedures, and all air carrier TSA Security Programs. Never participate in fraudulent activities with regard to safety and security.
- Remain aware of WFS staff, contractors, and visitors’ activities. Report security breaches, suspicious occurrences, or non-compliances with security processes or procedures, including access controls, badging, and security screening to the Manager or through the WFS reporting system, Pulse, or through the Company “See Something, Say Something” Program.
- Load and unload aircraft of cargo weighing up to 70 lbs. in and out of aircraft within confined cargo areas, push, pull, and position loaded containers weighing up to 3,200 lbs. on rollers with/to aircraft.
- Driving vehicles with gross weights of 3,000 to 80,000 lbs. in areas congested with aircraft, moving and stationary vehicles and equipment as well as positioning vehicle up to aircraft requiring depth perception and the ability to distinguish colors, red, green, and yellow.
- Transport cargo to and from aircraft driving 3,000 lb. vehicle using depth perception to negotiate vehicle with attached carts through congested area. Read "off-load" sheets to determine destination of cargo.
- Ability to understand and react to verbal commands and safety warnings, with and without, assistance of sight or visual aids.
Minimum Requirements
- HS Diploma, GED or Equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language.
- Ability to successfully communicate with others.
- Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends (i.e., Friday, Saturday and Sunday), holidays, and days off.
**This job is covered by a collective bargaining agreement of the Transport Workers Union (TWU), a labor union which requires joining the TWU and paying union dues.**
Preferred Skills
- Ability to judge distances.
- Ability to confront and question unauthorized personnel in secured areas, and report their presence to authorities as necessary.
- 1+ year customer service experience
