Job Summary

Mechanic Class B is the main responder to emergency situations. They perform preventive and corrective maintenance at the electrical and mechanical level of the material handling system. This will be done during the periods of permanence between flights and in the other non-operational hours. The mechanic must have experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all mechanical portions of the BHS and PBB. The mechanic must be able to work autonomously or with a work team and know how to competently replace any mechanical device, structural part or support involved with the efficient and safe operation of the BHS and PBB.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains machinery and electrical equipment such as motors, electrical circuits, diseased ATR systems, baggage management equipment, and conveyor systems according to diagrams, electrical drawings, operational manuals, and manufacturer specifications using hand tools and instruments that measure and test accuracy.
  • Examine diagnosis and repair mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Communicate with various parties about the work done and the current state of specialized systems.
  • Analyze the root causes of electrical failures and propose remedy and resolution as well as continuous monitoring for ways to improve and optimize the system.
  • Interpret engineering schematics and drawings in reference to the layout, location, and operation of systems.
  • React to calls from the control room operator or administrator executing CM, PM, and EM service calls.
  • Preventive maintenance: inspection, adjustment, cleaning, replacement and preparing cm follow-up work orders if necessary.
  • Attend to stoppages and bag jams as needed.
  • Completion of daily cleaning tasks individually and as a team.

Minimum Requirements

  • HS Diploma, GED or Equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule for a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Background check and drug screen required
  • Must be able to attain and sustain an Airport I.D. Badge

Preferred Skills

  • Strong electrical troubleshooting systems, conveyors and controls
  • Siemens, Allen Bradley PLC Systems
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and electromechanical devices up to 480 volts such as motors, C.C. clutches, switches, panels, controls, etc. Knowledge of dc drives a plus
  • Experience working on jet bridges (PBB)

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Employees work in the assured management areas of baggage, at repair stations, or at airfields and often must meet strict deadlines to maintain flight schedules.
  • Employees will be working with and exposed to the baggage handling system, mechanical parts, and vibration.
  • Employees may be exposed to various noise levels due to aircraft engines and equipment.
  • Employees bend, lean, and frequently reach ladders and scaffolding.
  • Employees are required to regularly speak and hear.
  • Employees are often required to reach with their hands and arms.
  • Employees may be required to perform a variety of activities that could include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, and climbing throughout their day.
  • Employees frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds with the help of teammates.
  • Employees will lift parts and tools for long periods of time and handle equipment such as transportation systems.
  • Employees will be working with and exposed to the baggage handling system, mechanical parts, and vibration.
  • Employees may be exposed to various noise levels due to aircraft engines and equipment.
