Job Summary

WFS is seeking a Ground Operations Business Inelligence Engineering to serve as the primary technical owner of Ground Handling analytics and reporting across North America.

This individual contributor role designs, builds, and maintains scalable analytics solutions supporting Ground Operations performance, KPI tracking, and operational decision-making, combining business intelligence, data engineering fundamentals, and hands-on analytics engineering.

 

The Business Intelligence Engineer will:

  • Own and enhance the Ground Power BI reporting ecosystem
  • Independently design and build small-to-medium data pipelines using Python and Microsoft Fabric
  • Perform end-to-end root cause analysis across systems, databases, APIs, Fabric pipelines, and reporting layers
  • Partner with Operations stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Act as a technical bridge between Ground Operations and the Data & Analytics team

This role requires strong independent problem-solving ability, technical depth, and the ability to communicate complex data issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

After stabilizing and optimizing the reporting landscape, this individual will contribute to automation initiatives and explore innovative uses of AI to improve analytics workflows and operational insights.

Key Responsibilities

Analytics Ownership & Reporting

  • Serve as the primary owner of all Ground Handling Power BI reports in North America
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain Power BI solutions within Microsoft Fabric
  • Build optimized data models using best practices in DAX and semantic modeling
  • Implement performance tuning and reliability improvements for reports and datasets
  • Manage report refresh failures, bug fixes, and production support independently

Analytics Engineering & Data Pipelines

  • Design and build small-to-medium data pipelines using Python and Microsoft Fabric (Data Pipelines, Notebooks)
  • Develop production-ready Python scripts with logging, monitoring, and error handling
  • Integrate and validate REST API endpoints (authentication, pagination, payload validation, troubleshooting)
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering on larger pipelines while independently owning smaller solutions
  • Support CI/CD best practices for Power BI and Fabric (experience preferred; ability to learn required)

Business Partnership & Communication

  • Work directly with Ground Operations leaders to gather requirements and propose multiple solution options with clear trade-offs
  • Translate technical findings into concise, business-ready explanations
  • Document technical designs, root cause findings, and data logic clearly
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) or progressing SME of Ground source systems and KPIs
  • Iterate with end users to continuously improve reporting usability and value

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Research and evaluate new reporting and analytics tools where appropriate
  • Promote best practices in analytics engineering and solution design
  • Apply an automation-first mindset to reporting and operational workflows
  • Explore innovative uses of AI to enhance analytics development, documentation, troubleshooting, and insight generation

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in analytics, BI, or analytics engineering roles
  • Strong SQL skills, including complex query writing, stored procedure validation, and performance troubleshooting
  • 3+ years of experience using Python for data processing and pipeline development
  • Experience working with REST APIs (authentication, error handling, debugging)
  • Strong experience developing and maintaining Power BI solutions (Power BI Service, data modeling, DAX)
  • Experience working in Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Data Pipelines, Notebooks)
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot data and reporting issues across multiple systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to explain technical topics clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with CI/CD practices for Power BI and analytics solutions
  • Experience with version control (e.g., Git)
  • Experience supporting operational or logistics environments
  • Familiarity with advanced analytics or automation use cases
  • Exposure to AI-driven analytics workflows or automation tooling
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Data Engineering teams

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
